Zusammenfassung

Amerikanische Parteien galten traditionell als die große Ausnahme im Vergleich mit ihren europäischen Pendants: Demokraten und Republikaner waren keine organisationsstarken Mitgliederparteien und definierten sich weniger über weltanschaulich klar definierte Programme. Mittlerweile jedoch zeigt sich ein anderes Bild: Das Parteiensystem ist stark polarisiert, die ideologischen Unterschiede zwischen Demokraten und Republikaner so deutlich wie nie in der jüngeren Geschichte des Landes. Und schließlich haben sich beide Parteien ein dichtes Netzwerk von Interessengruppen und anderen ihnen nahestehenden Organisationen geschaffen, mit dem sie stärker als zuvor gesellschaftlich verankert sind.
