Dieses Kapitel präsentiert Ihnen eine kompakte, umfassende Übersicht über die Pnictogene. Diese in chemischer Hinsicht vielseitigen Elemente können in zahlreichen Oxidationsstufen auftreten. Ihr Charakter reicht von nichtmetallisch (Stickstoff, teils auch Phosphor) über halbmetallisch (Arsen, Antimon) bis metallisch (Bismut und Moscovium). Antimon ist schon seit einigen tausend Jahren bekannt, Arsen seit etwa 800, Phosphor seit 350 und Stickstoff sowie Bismut auch schon seit 250 Jahren. Selbst Moscovium ist in seinen Grundzügen seit etwa 20 Jahren beschrieben. Eine offenbar „alte“ Elementenfamilie also? Keineswegs! Ständig erhalten Forscher und Anwender neue Ergebnisse, es gibt derart viele Anwendungen, sodass wir hier nur das Wichtigste berichten können.
