Definition
A twentieth-century scientist who integrated principles from ethology, ecology, and evolutionary biology with developmental psychology, Bowlby is most renowned for his scientific contributions of attachment theory in humans.
Introduction
John Bowlby’s early interest in child psychiatry and the influences of Sigmund Freud and Konrad Lorenz steered his career to become one of the most influential scientists in biology and psychology. His most famous works, such as monotropy, attachment theory, and the popular environment of evolutionary adaptedness (EEA), are still studied by numerous biological and psychological scholars. Evolutionary psychologists accredit Bowlby for being one of the first scientists to integrate biological and psychological principles in the study of human attachment.
