Canadian academics whose scholarly contributions and leadership roles in the Human Behavior and Evolution Society and its flagship journal were significant in the emergence of evolutionary psychology.
Introduction
When published in 1859, On the Origin of Species received a cool reception in Canada, owing to reservations of the nation’s most renowned nineteenth-century scholars, including J. W. Dawson, Principal of McGill College, and D. Wilson, Professor, University College, Toronto (Zeller 1998). The latter, a historian, artist, early archaeologist, and anthropologist coined the term “prehistory” (Trigger 1966). As its first president, he set the University of Toronto on the road to success and international renown.
