Definition

Sexuality under norms of a neighborhood or community, including socio-sexuality and adolescent sexual onset.

Local sexual practice, including individual’s sexual attitudes and behaviors, could be shaped by many factors, among which local norms and early family environment constitute the two most vital influencing variables.

Norms and Local Sexual Practice

Quite a lot of research indicated Local norms, especially the peer norms, usually exert important influences on individual’s sexual activities. For example, by interviewing with a sample of community young single men, one study (Jacques-Tiura et al. 2015) showed men’s sexual violence could be predicted powerfully by the peer group norm that encourage sexual aggression. Another research (Santana et al. 2006) showed adherence to traditional masculine norms would influence men’s condom using behaviors.
