Abstract
Father of the celebrated French scholar Madame Dacier, Tanneguy Le Fèvre was a professor of Greek and a classical scholar at the Protestant academy in Saumur, France. He published and translated several Greek and Latin works and proposed bold emendations to Greek and Latin texts. He also wrote essays, of which the Lives of the Greek Poets became notorious for his tentative to defend Sappho’s morals was attacked by a Saumur theologian.
