Abstract
Plants produce chemical compounds to protect themselves. Molting hormones could lead to supernumerary molts in insects. Studies on such substances have led to new environmentally safe insecticides.

S V Eswaran is the Head of Chemistry Department in St. Stephen’s College, Delhi where he has taught since 1968. A CRSI (Chemical Research Society of India) ‘Best Teacher’ Awardee, 2007, he has published 50 research papers and holds patents both nationally and internationally.
