Abstract
Clinical research is impossible without valid diagnostic tests. The methods for validating qualitative diagnostic tests, having binary outcomes, include sensitivity/specificity assessments and ROC (receiver operated characteristic) curves (Chaps. 52 and 53). In contrast, the methods for validating quantitative diagnostic tests, having continuous outcomes, have not been agreed upon. This chapter assesses pocket calculator methods for the purpose.
