Abstract
In this chapter, Zinan provides an overview of how school nurses play a key role in maintaining the health of students by providing education on growth and development, advocating for school policies that support wellness, and monitoring student health. Zinan notes that school nurses are often the first contact for students who are involved in bullying as students often present with headaches, stomach aches, asthma attacks, incontinence, and other symptoms that could be signs of bullying involvement. Zinan outlines the position statement of the National Association of School Nurses, which maintains that school nurses are important members of teams to prevent and address bullying in schools. This chapter further describes how students who are victims of bullying benefit from interaction with school nurses, and the resources needed for school nurses to become active members of the bullying-prevention team.
