Abstract
In the negative binomial distribution of SMC’s over the lateral thoracic aorta, the parameters of the distribution are governed by the mean and the ratio of variance:mean. Estimates of the variance can be obtained several ways, giving alternative estimates of the parameters. One way to estimate of variance derives from the “within sites” or “error” variance, and this way, in particular, offers evidence that foam cell infiltrates (AHA types IIa and III lesions) mark the transition from aggressive fibroplasia to atheroma.
