Abstract

SrCuO2 prepared at room pressure (RP) shows an orthorhombic structure [1], which can be described as formed by Cu atoms in planar square coordination, which are connected via edge-sharing, giving rise to the formation of [Cu2O2] double chains. By applying high pressure (HP), an infinite layer (IL) SrCuO2 structure is obtained which has a tetragonal symmetry, with corner-sharing CuO2 planes, and a density about 8% higher than the RP phase.
