Abstract

Administration and enforcement of Federal laws, mandated or authorized by Congress when the laws are passed, are responsibilities of regulatory agencies within the Executive Branch of the Government of the United States (Fig. 10.1). Food laws and other laws relating to the food industry are administered by or within no fewer than five Cabinet-level departments and two independent agencies: Department of Health and Human Services, (see Note in box), Department of Agriculture, Department of Commerce, Department of the Treasury, Department of Labor, Environmental Protection Agency, and Federal Trade Commission.
