Abstract
I should like to discuss the implications and the approach to dealing with those cases in which the serum contains a monoclonal band. They frequently cause a flurry and flutter in every laboratory the moment they are seen and start off a chain of activities which is sometimes purposeful and provides the information that is wanted, but which not infrequently leads to more mysteries.
