The Extraction and Fractionation of RNA

  • Chapter
Techniques in Molecular Biology

Abstract

Biological materials contain two forms of nucleic acid, namely DNA and RNA. It has been known for a number of years that RNA molecules are involved in the expression of the genetic material (DNA) by directing protein synthesis. Knowledge of the metabolism and mode of action of RNA is therefore crucial to our understanding of cell division, growth and development, and the future progress of genetic engineering.
