Recovery of renal function in the rat after warm ischaemia: functional and morphological changes

Abstract

Where cardiac arrest is used as the criterion of death and organ removal for transplantation, significant renal damage occurs prior to removal, and is a major factor in subsequent preservation. Pre-treatment regimens may reduce ischaemic damage but little is known concerning the events leading to recovery, the extent of recovery or the factors that influence recovery from warm ischaemic damage. This preliminary study was planned to determine functional and morphological changes occurring in the rat kidney after warm ischaemia.
