Advanced Flow Modelling for Industrial Applications — CFD Models of Adsorbers

  • Chapter
Energy Efficiency in Process Technology

Abstract

The present study is concerned with an area of process engineering which has been identified as a priority area with respect to energy saving, namely the adsorption/regeneration cycles in packed - bed reactors. The objective of this work is to incorporate recognized fundamental description of adsorption into flow patterns measured and predicted by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques; the latter predictions being obtained by solving the full two-dimensional Navier - Stokes equations, energy and species conservation equations, for a fixed bed adsorber in steady-state and transient modes.
