Abstract
An important outcome of the Kennedy Hearings was to shift the locus of policy action in the infant formula controversy to the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva. The first step by the WHO was to co-sponsor, with UNICEF, an international meeting on Infant and Young Child Feeding in Geneva, Switzerland, on October 9-12, 1979. The objective of the meeting was to stimulate discussion among participants leading to “affirmative actions to be implemented” for improving infant malnutrition and mortality.1
