Viscous Regularization of Strain-Localisation for Damaging Materials

Viscous and rate-dependent constitutive models

DIANA Computational Mechanics ‘94

Abstract

This study analyses two techniques to resolve the inherent mesh dependence of finite-element solutions for softening materials. The first technique is based on a viscous damage-evolution law, while the second damage-formulation is derived from a rate-dependent smeared crack-model. Both techniques are theoretically described and numerically analysed.
