Abstract
Emergency or life-threatening situations place additional demands on the examination and on the examiner. The veterinarian must take care to act resolutely and adequately in situations which can be overwhelmed by emotion. It is not always easy to gain control of such a situation, but the following guidelines will help:

remain quiet and calm

try to work quickly and efficiently
-
work according to a fixed plan
-
set priorities.
