Abstract
It seems obvious now, that metal thin film obtained by condensed vapor on insulator substrate, is a good model for heterogeneous catalysis (1), (2). We don’t want to expose here an exhaustive approach of heterogeneous nucleation and growth mecanisms, but only underline the new experimental facts and theoretical concepts studied in the early seventies and which could help to the understanding of the behaviour of metal support catalysts. Reader who wants to go deeply in the theoretical aspects of heterogeneous nucleation must follow the authoritative books of HIRTH and POUND (3), MATTHEWS (4) and finally the up to date one’s of LEWIS and ANDERSON (5).
