Abstract

“Physics of small particles” covers, both, molecular physics and condensed matter physics; it is the transition region between the two. In a somewhat idealized kind of growth process of a small particle, we may add atoms, one by one, to a nucleus atom, starting, thus, with a molecular aggregate of few atoms and ending with a condensed matter particle of, say, several millions of atoms. Observing physical properties of such aggregates as changing during growth we are witnesses of the formation of the solid state.
