Cyclosporin A and skin disease

  • Chapter
Cyclosporin

Abstract

The treatment of skin diseases traditionally involves an empirical approach since neither the pathogenesis of the disease nor the mode of action of the treatments employed is well understood in most cases. In contrast the potential benefits of treating psoriasis with cyclosporin (CsA), a potent immunosuppressive drug widely used in organ transplantation because of its selective effect on T lymphocytes, were predicted because of the increasing evidence in support of psoriasis as a T cell-mediated disease.
