Abstract
The application of specific molecular techniques, such as RFLP (restriction fragment length polymorphisms) (see Chapter 6) or AFLP (amplified fragment length polymorphisms) (see Chapter 10), or the construction of genomic libraries, require DNA extraction protocols which yield genomic DNA of sufficient quantity and quality. Within the European Commission DG XII Biotechnology Framework III Progamme, a workshop1* was held to evaluate the available commercial and non-commercial protocols for efficiency and universality and for the quality of the extracted DNA.
