The Rabbit in the Hat

The internal relations of the Pragma-Dialectical rules

  • Chapter
Anyone Who Has a View

Part of the book series: Argumentation Library ((ARGA,volume 8))

Abstract

What many find striking about the Pragma-Dialectical theory is that it has a definite set of rules for conducting and evaluating critical discussions. I think these rules individually, and as a set, have a great deal of intuitive plausibility in their favour. Therefore, in this essay, I propose to look at the rules more closely and ask where they come from, how they may be justified, and whether there is any internal connection between them as a group.
