A partire dagli anni’ 50 del secolo appena trascorso sono stati estensivamente studiati i costituenti chimici delle foglie di diverse specie di Aloe: questi sembrano essere molto più di 75 e rappresentano circa l’1% del peso secco della foglia, mentre la restante parte (circa il 99%) è acqua (Tabella 6.1). Pertanto la concentrazione di questi componenti è relativamente bassa (Luta e McAnalley, 2005).
