Riassunto
L’era digitale si è instaurata nelle nostre esistenze con le caratteristiche di un’evoluzione, piuttosto che di una rivoluzione. Se volessimo paragonarla alla famosa rivoluzione industriale inglese che, a partire dalla metà del Settecento, cambio l’economia mondiale in modo radicale, è facile cogliere differenze sostanziali. La realtà digitale è frutto di un processo evolutivo silenzioso, come silenziose sono tutte le evoluzioni, proprio perché legate alla naturalità dell’esistenza. Quando ci accorgiamo che un figlio è cresciuto o che lo stato di un paziente è cambiato, sebbene ce lo potessimo aspettare, veniamo sempre colti di sorpresa, e, insieme, abbiamo la sensazione che qualcosa sia accaduto al di fuori della nostra consapevolezza. Il concetto di rivoluzione invece è correlato all’idea di rottura di uno stato precedente e quindi di un cambiamento improvviso e non diluito nel tempo, che nella sua evidenza concreta non ha nulla di inconsapevole. È la stessa differenza che c’è tra un respiro e un colpo di tosse. Il primo è un atto fisiologico di cui non ci accorgiamo e segue una continuità, il secondo è patologico, fa accorgere di sé e rimanda all’idea di un’interruzione. Inoltre, la rivoluzione industriale è fondata sul concetto di macchina e di operare attraverso meccanismi concreti, mentre l’evoluzione digitale ha come fine ultimo la relazione tra esseri umani, veicolando informazioni primariamente per immagini e coinvolgendo allo stesso modo l’interpersonale e l’intrapsichico.
