Questo capitolo è dedicato allo studio della struttura geometrica delle varietà Riemanniane. Il concetto chiave che ci permetterà una maggiore comprensione è quello di geodetica rispetto ad una connessione lineare, una curva con vettore tangente parallelo. Le geodetiche svolgono un ruolo analogo a quello svolto dai segmenti in ℝn, e (come illustreremo anche nel prossimo capitolo) sono uno strumento essenziale per l’investigazione della geometria delle varietà Riemanniane.
