Estratto
Un gruppo G è un insieme non vuoto nel quale è definita un’operazione binaria, cioè una funzione
tale che, denotando con ab l’immagine della coppia (a, b),
-
i)
l’operazione è associativa: (ab)c = a(bc), per ogni terna di elementi a, b, c ∈ G;
-
ii)
esiste un elemento e ∈ G tale che ea = a = ae, per ogni a ∈ G. Questo elemento è unico. Infatti, se anche e′ è tale che e′ a = a = ae′, per ogni a ∈ G, allora ee′ = e e ee′ = e′, e dunque e′ = e (la funzione G × G → G non può associare due elementi diversi alla coppia (e, e′));
-
iii)
per ogni a ∈ G esiste x ∈ G tale ax = e = xa.
