Hereditary Non-polyposis Colorectal Cancer: The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Experience

Hereditary Colorectal Cancer

Abstract

The UT M. D. Anderson Cancer Center recently initiated a registry for Hereditary Non-polyposis Colorectal Cancer (HNPCC). Modelled after the Creighton program, our interests include early detection and clinical management, intermediate laboratory markers, and chemoprevention. Kindreds registered to date have the usual features of HNPCC. Mucosal markers (tritiated thymidine and bromodeoxyuridine labelling) have varied considerable amongst high-risk subjects studied. A multi-centered prospective screening trial, with further evaluation of intermediate markers and chemoprevention strategies is proposed.
