Organisationale Kompetenzen werden im Knowledge-based View als kollektiv geteiltes Wissen einer Organisation verstanden. Ihre Potenz zur Generierung dauerhafter und kaum zu imitierender Wettbewerbsvorteile wird insbesondere auf den impliziten und kollektiven Charakter des zugrunde liegenden Wissens zurückgeführt. Wir identifizieren drei konzeptionelle Probleme dieser Argumentation: die Nichtbeachtung ungeteilten Expertenwissens, die Dezentrierung individueller Akteure als Träger von Wissen sowie die mangelnde Erklärungskraft des Ansatzes für die Nichtimitierbarkeit von Ressourcen. Wir formulieren ein alternatives Konzept organisationaler Kompetenzen. Es beruht einerseits auf der Strukturationstheorie und andererseits auf dem Konzept transaktiver Wissenssysteme, wobei insbesondere die entscheidende Rolle individueller Akteure und die soziale Organisation ihres individuellen Wissens in transaktiven Wissenssystemen betont werden. Unser Konzept organisationaler Kompetenzen erlaubt eine angemessene Würdigung individuellen, ungeteilten und expliziten Wissens in Organisationen sowie eine klarere Beschreibung der Nichtimitierbarkeit von Ressourcen als Grundlage für dauerhafte Wettbewerbsvorteile.
