Die Analyse von Interaktionsmöglichkeiten in Onlineshops und ihr Einfluss auf den Konsumenten sind von entscheidender Bedeutung für Forscher und Praktiker, die sich mit Onlinemarketing beschäftigen. Interaktionsmöglidikeiten, die selbst bestimmte Erkundungen und Informationsgewinnung in Bezug auf das Produkt oder den Hersteller ermöglichen, können als ein wichtiger Vorteil von Qnlineshops im Vergleich zu realen Geschäften angesehen werden. Einige Interaktionsmöglichkeiten sind nur in Qnlineshops (verglichen mit realen Geschäften) verfügbar, z.B. die Auswahl eines persönlichen Avatars (vgl. Bauer/Neumann/Mäder 2005; Diehl 2002) oder die Projektion von neuen Möbeln in ein Bild des eigenen Wohnzimmers des Konsumenten.
