Henry Ford erkannte bereits in den Geburtsjahren der Automobilindustrie die Bedeutung des Automobils für die gesamtökonomische Entwicklung des letzten Jahrhunderts: „Wir fahren nicht nur Auto, weil wir so reich sind, sondern wir sind auch so reich, weil wir Auto fahren.“ (Ford (o.
