Abstract

One of the important systems in a road vehicle that ensure its safe operation is the brake system. A brake system is used to decelerate the vehicle and bring it to rest it when necessary, and to hold the vehicle stationary on both flat and inclined roads. Conventional road vehicles predominantly use friction brakes at the wheels that convert the vehicle’s kinetic energy to heat energy. These friction brakes are actuated by a combination of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic elements. Most light motor vehicles including passenger cars are equipped with a hydraulic brake system that uses an incompressible brake fluid as the energy‐transmitting medium.
