Zusammenfassung
Ribonucleinsäuren (RNAs) werden nach ihrer biologischen Aufgabe in sechs Klassen eingeteilt: I. ribosomale RNAs (rRNAs), II. Boten-RNAs (mRNAs, messenger), III. Transfer-RNAs (tRNAs), IV. kleine nucleäre RNAs (snRNAs, small nuclear), V. kleine interferierende RNAs (siRNAs, small interfering) und VI. Mikro-RNAs (miRNAs). Die rRNA stellt etwa 90–95 % der Gesamt-RNA einer Zelle. tRNAs sind die Träger der Aminoacylreste, die in der Translation auf die wachsende Polypeptidkette übertragen werden. snRNAs sind Bestandteil von Ribonucleoproteinen, die z.B. das RNA-Spleißen katalysieren. siRNAs und miRNAs sind negative Regulatoren der Genexpression. Die für Protein kodierende mRNA sowie die regulatorischen siRNAs und miRNAs sind für die Molekularbiologie von besonderem Interesse.
