Zusammenfassung

Die Methode der Polymerase-Kettenreaktion (polymerase chain reaction, PCR, Saiki et al., 1988) wurde 1987 von Kary B. Mullis entwickelt. Dieses Verfahren hat die Gentechnik bis zum heutigen Zeitpunkt revolutioniert. Es ermöglicht enzymatisch von bestimmten Nucleotidsequenzen in vitro millionenfach Kopien herzustellen. Dieser als Amplifikation bezeichnete Vorgang macht auch sehr geringe Mengen von DNA einer Analyse schnell zugänglich.
