Zusammenfassung
Für die DNA-Technologie gibt es zahlreiche praktische Anwendungsmöglichkeiten. Da jedes Individuum eine einzigartige DNA-Sequenz aufweist, kann man DNA-Proben zur individuellen Identifizierung nutzen. Mittlerweile werden DNA-Beweise auch vor Gericht zur Feststellung von Schuld oder Unschuld verwendet. Erstmals angewendet wurde die DNA-Technologie Mitte der 1980er-Jahre in Großbritannien, kurz darauf dann auch in den Vereinigten Staaten. Inzwischen haben zahlreiche Länder bereits DNA-Datenbanken (in Deutschland die DNA-Analysedatei, DAD) bekannter Krimineller erstellt, insbesondere von solchen, die schwere Straftaten begangen haben. Am häufigsten werden DNA-Nachweise jedoch nach wie vor zur Aufklärung umstrittener Vaterschaften eingesetzt.
