Schmerzmanagement bei älteren und kognitiv beeinträchtigten Menschen

Zusammenfassung

Die Kehrseite der steigenden Lebenserwartung ist die Zunahme chronischer Erkrankungen, die bei Betagten häufig gleichzeitig auftreten. Viele dieser Krankheiten gehen mit chronischen Schmerzen einher. Gleichzeitig steigt auch die Prävalenz der Demenzerkrankungen, die mit zunehmendem Schweregrad die Kommunikationsfähigkeit beeinträchtigen. Das Erkennen und Erfassen von Schmerzen wird zur Herausforderung und verlangt in dieser Patientengruppe eine sorgfältige Beobachtung und die richtige Interpretation von Verhaltensänderungen. Dabei können geeignete Assessmenttools helfen. Für die symptomatische Schmerzbehandlung sind die Veränderungen des älteren Organismus zu beachten und eine situationsgerechte Wahl der Stärke und Galenik der Analgetika zu treffen.
