Demenz und Palliative Geriatrie in der Praxis

Zusammenfassung

Akutgeriatrien sind Spezialabteilungen für Geriatrie im Krankenhaus mit einem ganzheitlichen, rehabilitationsorientierten Behandlungskonzept. Im Fokus stehen nicht nur medizinische Probleme, sondern auch die seelische und soziale Situation sowie der körperlich funktionelle und kognitive Status der Patientinnen. Palliative Care und Geriatrie stimmen inhaltlich in großen Bereichen überein: Beide sind Querschnittsfächer, für beide gelten Patientinnenzentriertheit und die Arbeit im multidisziplinären Team als obligatorische Struktur- und Leistungsstandards. Die Geriatrie überbrückt den scheinbaren Gegensatz zwischen kurativem und palliativem Konzept. Der Wechsel vom kurativen in das palliative Paradigma ärztlichen Handelns ist in die Geriatrie integriert. Sterbebegleitung als ethische und professionelle Verpflichtung des geriatrischen Teams bedeutet, Leiden zu verhindern bzw. zu lindern. Dazu gehört es auch, alles zu unterlassen, was den sterbenden Menschen unnötig belastet.
