Eine explizierte Ethik der Profession und Disziplin der Sozialen Arbeit kann nicht nur eine Richtlinie für professionelles Verhalten der Sozialarbeiterinnen sein, sondern kann zugleich den Adressatinnen, aber auch weiteren gesellschaftlichen Akteuren erklären, warum eine bestimmte normative Herangehensweise gewählt wurde.
