Zusammenfassung
Web-Experimente haben im Vergleich zu anderen Methoden der Online-Forschung wie Online-Befragungen und non-reaktive Datenerhebung den entscheidenden Vorteil, dass man mit ihnen kausale Beeinflussung und nicht nur korrelativen Zusammenhang überprüfen kann. Dem Experiment als Methode ist außerdem durch die Wahl der zu vergleichenden Versuchsbedingungen (sogenannte „Stufen der unabhängigen Variablen“) ein deduktives, hypothesenprüfendes Forschen inhärent, bei dem sich die bei anderen Forschungsweisen vieldiskutierte Frage der Repräsentativität der Ergebnisse nicht stellt.
