Zusammenfassung
Am 21. März jedes Jahres wird der Tag der Menschenrechte (Human Rights Day) in Südafrika gefeiert. An diesem Tag wurden bei Sharpeville in der Nähe von Vereeniging (Vereinigung) vor 37 Jahren 69 unbewaffnete schwarze Demonstranten — Männer, Frauen und Kinder — von indoktrinierten Polizisten im Dienst des Apartheidregimes brutal niedergeschossen. Hunderte wurden verletzt. Diese verhängnisvollen Schüsse führten direkt zum bewaffneten Kampf; sie leiteten somit das Ende der Apartheid in die Wege. Jetzt, nach der Apartheid, entsteht in Südafrika eine neue historische Gemeinschaft, über deren Sinn und Form auch in Europa die Diskussion lohnt. Im Rahmen dieses Beitrags werde ich mich auf einige Grundfragen des Wandels des Bildungssystems, vor allem hinsichtlich der Schulsprachenpolitik, beschränken.
