Abstract
In the Customized Machine Tool model, the uncertainty of customers’ demands for functions and of the reservation prices is incorporated into the model in form of scenarios with certain scenario probabilities. In the following sections, the basic ideas of stochastic programming and scenario programming will be explained. The notion of uncertain data in mathematical programming was introduced in the 1950’s. Kall and Wallace [1994] and Dempster [1980] give a number of references for the introduction to stochastic programming. As Dempster [1980] describes it, the term refers to using random variables in mathematical models.
