Zusammenfassung
Mit diesem Zitat von Michael Faraday beginnt Carl Sagan (1997) ein wundervolles Plädoyer für offenes Denken in seinem Buch “The Demon-Haunted World — Science as a candle in the Dark”. Mit dem folgenden Auszug aus Bertrand Russels “Mysticism and Logic” zeigt er allerdings auch die andere Seite der Medaille: “Insight, untested and unsupported, is an insufficient guarantee of truth.” Beide Zitate bilden die Einleitung für das Kapitel “The Marriage of Skepticism and Wonder”, in der Sagan zeigt, wie wissenschaftlicher Fortschritt vom Zusammenspiel aus Begeisterung (Wonder) für Neues und Zweifeln (Skepticism) an selbigem abhängt.
„Nothing is too wonderful to be true.“
