Abstract

Computer programmes, used to conduct a contest of strategies in an iterated two person game, were subsequently used to simulate the evolution of behaviour patterns. The result of the experiments shed light on the way cooperative or altruistic forms of behaviour may have evolved in some animals in consequence of natural selection.
