Zusammenfassung
Im Limited-Capacity-Modell sind drei zentrale Informationsverarbeitungsvorgänge vorgesehen: das Enkodieren, das Speichern und das Abrufen von Informationen. Im Rahmen des Enkodierens werden durch die Sinnesorgane aufgenommene Informationen in das Arbeitsgedächtnis übertragen und dort in einem bedeutungsnahen Repräsentationsformat dargestellt, das für komplexe kognitive Prozesse (z. B. Urteilen, Entscheiden, Planen, Problemlösen) geeignet ist. Im Wesentlichen geht es dabei darum zu verstehen, was die aufgenommenen Informationen bedeuten. Im vorliegenden Kapitel werden theoretische Ansätze sowie experimentelle Ergebnisse vorgestellt, die zeigen, dass das Verstehen einen Vorgang darstellt, der sich im intensiven wechselseitigen Austausch zwischen Informationsumwelt und Informationsnutzer abspielt.
