Zusammenfassung

Was haben Goethe, Freud und Brecht gemeinsam? Alle drei waren nicht nur erfolgreiche Autoren, sondern litten auch unter Angststörungen, die heutzutage als Paniksyndrom bzw. Agoraphobic diagnostiziert werden würden. Während Goethe seine Panikanfälle und Phobien mit einer frühen Form von »Verhaltenstherapie« bewältigte, versuchte Freud, Angstanfälle und »Reisefieber« mit einer Selbstanalyse in den Griff zu bekommen. Von Brecht sind dagegen keine derartigen Selbstheilungsversuche seiner »herzneurotischen« Ängste bekannt. Die eng verknüpften Störungsbilder des Paniksyndroms und der Agoraphobien betreffen aber nicht nur berühmte Künstler und Wissenschaftler. In der klinischen Praxis machen sie den größten Teil der Angstpatienten aus, die ihrerseits wiederum die häutigste Form psychischer Störungen darstellen.
