Comparison of Crystal Structures of Inhibitor Complexes of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus Protease

Molecular Aspects of Chemotherapy

Abstract

The structures of four complexes of the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 protease with inhibitors, solved in our laboratory, as well as five structures solved elsewhere, are compared. Four different crystal forms are represented in this comparison. Although considerable similarity of the mode of binding is observed in all subsites occupied by the inhibitors, some differences are noted, particularly for the terminal groups of the inhibitors.
