Zusammenfassung
An der Côte des Allemands, etwa 26 Meilen flussaufwärts von New Orleans direkt am Flussufer des Mississippi gelegen, trafen im Jahr 1721 zirka 250 so genannte ‚Deutsche‘ ein, welche die Reise in das koloniale Louisiana vornehmlich in Familien- und Dorfverbünden aus dem heutigen Südwestdeutschland und Elsass angetreten hatten. Von den ‚Tausenden‘, die laut Quellen ursprünglich aufgebrochen waren, hatte nur ein Bruchteil überlebt. Die familialen Netzwerke der Siedler_innen waren im Verlauf der Reise aufgelöst worden: die Migration nach Louisiana hatte sich als Familien zersetzendes Projekt herausgestellt. Der Beitrag zeigt, wie die lokalen Kirchenregister der Kapuziner sodann eine ideale Repräsentationsfolie boten, um die familialen Netzwerke der Siedler_innen neu zu gestalten, zu dokumentieren und zu inszenieren.
