Verbote der Verwendung und des Besitzes bestimmter Waffengattungen werden im Beitrag anhand der Beispiele des Genfer Protokolls, der Chemie- sowie der Biowaffenkonvention, des Baruch-Plans und des Nuklearen Nichtverbreitungsvertrags untersucht. An eine historische Betrachtung des Zustandekommens schließt sich eine Analyse der Motive und Wirkungen der Abkommen an.
