Zusammenfassung
Das Wort ›Kritik‹ stammt vom altgriechischen Verbum krinein her, das im Wesentlichen zwei Bedeutungen hatte: 1. aussondern (des Guten vom Schlechten), 2. beurteilen. Diese zweite Bedeutung spielt die Hauptrolle in der Bestimmung der Bedeutung von Kritik in der Moderne, aber jene Bedeutung schwingt noch mit (etwa im Fall von philologischer Kritik an Texten aus der Antike). Der Begriff von Kritik bekam schon in der Aufklärung ein hohes Profil, besonders durch den von Jean-François Marmontel verfassten Artikel ›Critique‹ in der Encyclopédie (1751 ff.).
